CPR Feedback Device Use in Resuscitation Training
Red Cross Guidelines
-
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation feedback devices should be used during training for healthcare professionals and lay providers.
Insights
A recent systematic review by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation with meta-analyses showed moderate- to high-certainty evidence that feedback devices significantly improve cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skill acquisition and retention, including compression depth, rate, and recoil and overall CPR quality. No studies evaluated patient survival or actual resuscitation performance. The benefit was most pronounced in healthcare providers, though still present in lay providers, and no harms were identified. Red Cross guidelines reflect the consistent evidence favoring the use of feedback devices during training for all quality outcomes.
